Throughout the years I’ve realized that there is a whole shirt universe out there for men, both ready- to- wear and bespoke, but the choices for women are highly limited.
Growing up in the 1980’s in Milan where my family owned a fabric company, I soon developed a keen eye, and a strong passion for dress shirts, and fashion in general. Designing a shirt is a highly rewarding experience, which ends in the creation of one-of-a kind piece. The uniqueness lies in the many different elements you can choose from, such as the fabric, the wave, the collar, the cuff, the pocket, the buttons, even the buttonhole colors.
Soon after moving to the U.S.A., I noticed that women seldom wear shirts, and took me a while to figure out why. It was time to turn the category upside down with a bespoke design process for a perfect fit; ad-hoc buttons placement that strengthens the shirt in key body areas and a one-of-kind style. I’m warning you. Be prepared to wear a show-stopping Italian shirt.
I soon realized that the breadth of options in shirts is only available to men. When it comes to women’s wardrobes, the choices in button-down shirts are very limited, of low quality, poorly made, offering generic ready-to-wear rack models. Each of my creations has a unique identity, provided by the sophisticated design, fabric combination and unexpected attention to details. Also, I re-designed the traditional 7-buttons placement to strengthen the shirt properly around the breast and stomach area. All of my shirts use more buttons, strategically placed at shorter distances from each other for your added comfort.
Every shirt has a name that identifies its inspiration, mood and creative DNA.
I believe that the existing size system does not make sense when it comes to certain piece of clothing, such as shirts. The one and only way to offer a shirt with a perfect fit is to design it using a dozen measurements of your front and back body and your neck and sleeve. Welcome to the world of bespoke clothing. It is an affordable luxury worth trying.
The female body has what I refer to as a “third dimension,” and requires about a dozen intricate measurements to design the perfect fit. Only in this way, the shirt can match the precise contours of your shoulders, chest and waist, even the size of your watch. Because it is bespoke, you can also chose the kind of fitting that will feel best for you, ranging from extra slim, slim and regular.
Crafting a high quality shirt only starts with the passion and heritage of our seamstresses, coupled with high quality products that are meticulously selected from the best of the textile world.
I strongly believe that there are no shortcuts to get an exceptionally good product. In order to make a high quality shirt, you need to start with high quality “ingredients.” This is our product philosophy.
The fabrics I use are made with double twisted cotton prized for its sheen, softness and durability. They come from Italian textile companies with established traditions such as Canclini, Cotonificio Albini, and Tessitura Monti. Passoni Bespoke shirts are made with mother of pearl buttons instead of the more common plastic ones, as this material is stronger and more glittery than traditional plastic.
In an age of impersonal and disposable objects; we want to offer products with a soul that are one-of-a-kind; a celebration of cultural heritage and the embodiment of the tradition of “saper fare” (how to do things), as we say in Italy.
The world of craftsmanship is back. Hand-drawn, hand-made, hand-stitched. The hand is a BIG deal again. And this means celebrating the process of making.
At PASSONI BESPOKE, we are all about handcrafting our shirts with meticulous care and attention to every detail. The result is clear: perfection redefined as imperfect perfection. Each shirt will never be exactly the same because it is a human hand, and not a machine, that makes the product.
